For those who missed it, here’s what happened yesterday

We decided to take a new approach on our latest AMA (Ask Me Anything) session: our CEO and COO, Pedro and Salomé, recorded their answers on video, providing a more detailed and insightful interaction with the community. Moderated by our Head of Growth, Ricardo, the session started this Monday, August 16th, at 12.00 GMT.

Enjoy our recap!

AMA

This is a transcript of the AMA session that happened on dotmoovs’ Telegram Channel. Some parts have been adapted to this format.

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:03:19]:
Hi everyone! Welcome to our AMA

Our AMA will have a different format, the team chose to answer your questions in video

Our app is soon to be released and we decided to give the community the opportunity to ask some questions about it!

Today, besides me, we’ll be having Pedro Rente Lourenço, our CEO and Salomé Azevedo, our COO, answering some of the questions.

As you know, we gave the opportunity for you to submit your questions in advance and we must say that we were very happy to see the level of engagement of everyone. We ended up choosing 8 questions from 6 of our members

So, to get things going, I know Pedro would like to say something!

Pedro Rente Lourenço, [16 Aug 2021 via video]:

Hi everyone and Welcome to our dotmoovs AMA. It’s been little while since we’ve done one of these with our community, but particularly given that our app is about to be launched and it’s an exciting time for us, there’s a lot of work happening in the background, we thought it would be good give you some updates about what we’re up to.

As you may have seen on our announcements, we have some exciting partnerships coming and our app — which a major milestone that we managed to bring forward by 2 months.

We want to give our users the best gaming experience for the sports challenges. We’ve been working a lot on our scoring system and in our AI algorithms and on many other features.

We really need you to participate, give feedback and help us improve.

We can not wait to get this to the state where we can release it to everyone and make this project the success it deserves.

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:07:02]:

Thanks Pedro!! 😊 Alright, let’s start with the questions

@alvarussy7 asked: “Can we play/ do sport to get $MOOV coin? Or do something to earn to $MOOV coin?”

Salomé Azevedo, [16 Aug 2021 via video]:

What we decided to do is to establish an ecosystem or an environment inside our app, where athletes and non-athletes, so people that love sports and want to play, are able to earn from that. We’ve been looking for different kinds of mechanisms that would make our users earn through activity performance and we decided to implement the play-to-earn.

Everything that you do on the platform is for you to improve yourself and for the community to grow. This is our main mission at dotmoovs, helping athletes to monetize their own performance by having challenges, either individual challenges or peer-to-peer challenges in order for them to monetise each performance through $MOOV coin.

You will be able to exchange $MOOV coin to other coins, invest in our platform, using that to improve yourself by beating other players in specific challenges.

We are going to launch the MVP for freestyle soccer, but it will not only be for challenging others — it will have activities dedicated for you to evolve in some specific techniques, making you move easier.

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:11:51]:

Awesome Salomé! Btw, great to see you both on video.

Phillip asked: “Where did the name DotMoovs get inspired from?”

Pedro Rente Lourenço, [16 Aug 2021 via video]:

This is a question that we actually get quite often, and people seem to be quite interested in that. Dotmoovs is, as you can imagine, divided into 2 parts — DOT and MOOVS.

The second part is natural, we want people to move with us, to play in our sports challenges and actually move. Regarding the first part, the DOT, comes more from a mathematical background, from things like the dot product that is very important for the determination of the score. So it’s actually a combination of technology and sports, which is the very essence of dotmoovs.

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:14:31]:

I’m glad we finally got to clarify this one for everybody. Alright, next one:

It’s from @Roman432 (we’ll actually be doing 2 questions from Roman, but let’s start with the first one): “I am very fascinated by the Peer2Peer challenge feature on your platform. Could you please tell us more about it and how it differs from Strava and Peloton, with such features on their platform?”

Salomé Azevedo, [16 Aug 2021 via video]:

We look at other platforms available in the market to be sure that we are making something new and exciting for our users.

The peer-to-peer challenges is where everything started for dotmoovs — so the idea was to create a venue for people to compete with each other, regardless of the geographic situation or their monetary status. So concerning the other platforms in the market, we bring something new for not making our users use complementary devices to play, they just need a smartphone with a camera integrated to be able to play with each other. The challenge is quite simple in its components, so you just need to download our app, find an opponent you want to challenge and start recording your own performance. You have 30 seconds to make the best moves you can and after that, our AI mechanism is going to score your performance and score the performance of your opponent. Of course the one that has the highest score is going to win the challenge.

I think that puts us in a very sweet spot concerning our competition, even if they are doing peer-to-peer challenges, they are not making it into a gaming environment nor thinking how you could evolve in the gaming ecosystem.

In our case, we will have rankings where you can see who are the best players and try to challenge them, and we have an established environment where you don’t need to play against players higher in the rank, you can play with players at the same level as you. I think this mechanism allows users to be able to evolve and also to be able to have fun while they play-to-earn, being better day after day.

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:21:41]:

Thanks Salomé! Also from @Roman432: Currently, in addition to football, how many sports does your app support? Would you consider introducing more sports, such as boxing, dancing, swimming, etc., so that you can reach a wider audience?

Salomé Azevedo, [16 Aug 2021 via video]:

We started with football because of our ambassadors, Luis Figo and Ricardo Quaresma who were with us from the early beginning. It just made sense for us to start with football. We want to release other sports as fast as we can and I’m glad you asked this, because boxing and dancing are 2 of the sports in our list. Regarding swimming, that’s a bit more tricky and I don’t think we’ll have it in the near future.

I think I will tease all the dancers and all the boxers in our community to start practicing because they will have a spot in our in app!

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:24:15]:

Great to hear those updates :)

@ArekAdam asks: Safety and security are always the most important things. So what is the security mechanism of Dotmoovs to ensure that user data will not become the target of hacker attacks?

Pedro Rente Lourenço, [16 Aug 2021 via video]:

Safety, security and actually privacy are some of our main concerns. So, what we have been working on is a perfectly secure cloud environment, state-of-the-art access controls, governance, security protocols, etc to make sure that our users data is completely safe.

So, this is beyond smart contracts which have been all audited, everything is as secure as it can be, but we know no one is free from a hacker attack as we’ve seen recently, but we’re doing our best to keep everyone’s data as soon as possible.

I’ll say that Beyond security of the data privacy is one of our main concerns, obviously we’re dealing with videos of people and we have to be very very careful on who has access to this data and having very strict access controls.

That’s definitely in our minds when we’re building everything. I think the option of being a cloud-first project also puts us in a very good position because we don’t rely on our own security protocols in our servers. We’re using state-of-the-art Google powered security to make sure the data is kept safe in the cloud.

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:27:47]:

Interesting Pedro! Thanks!

@Pradeep67 asks: No matter how advanced Dotmoovs AI technology is, I think there will always be users who are dissatisfied with the results. How do you deal with it? Is there a way to put a controversial result in the community to decide?

Pedro Rente Lourenço, [16 Aug 2021 via video]:

That is a very good question and this is something we’ve battled with from the start. The idea is that in the future we’re going to develop proper AI anti-cheat mechanisms. They will try to do fraud detection, much like some of the banks use in their systems, trying to figure out if the person in the video is a real human or if they’re doing something shady that needs to be reviewed.

Right now as we’re building our datasets, that’s not something we can immediately work on, so the solution that we found was to allow people to contest the results, basically allowing them at the end to see the opponent’s video, what the other person is doing, and give the possibility to report it if they think something’s not right. They can report it if they don’t agree with the results or they can report it if they think some fraud was happening. In that case we will review the video manually to make sure that there is some consistency and that people are doing the right thing. Right now, this is the best we can do

It’s a very good idea to put it to the community, but not so much as a fraud detection mechanism, but more in a score improvement perspective.

So that’s definitely something we will look into in the future. Right now we’re basing our scoring systems on the Worldwide Freestyle Football Association scoring system, to make sure we’re using the same as professionals use. But using the community to give us some metrics on the style or the kind of innovation people have on their performances, could be very interesting as well.

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:30:47]:

Now from @carlos671: Every time we win, we can earn NFT and $MOOV, can we only play and compete in sports games? Are there other games, such as educational games, entertainment games, or other games that can be played and competed?

Salomé Azevedo, [16 Aug 2021 via video]:

Yes definitely in the near future we will have more games, always related to sports, where you might not need to play, but you’ll need to show your knowledge in Sports, also allowing you to earn NFTs and $MOOVs to move forward.

But the focus on dotmoovs is actually to allow athletes in the real world to join the crypto ecosystem and to be able to make a sustainable model to keep playing and to keep improving in sports.

I guess everything will be related to sports, some challenges will be more difficult like the peer-to-peer where you never know how your opponent will do on the challenge. But you will also have individual challenges where you’re there to improve certain techniques.

There will also be legendary challenges where, if you feel comfortable and confident with skills, you can challenge some of our most iconic players in the app and try to beat their scores.

So to sum up, we will have more educational games and more entertaining games but it will always be focused on sports.

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:33:10]:

And finally, last question, also from @carlos671: How high quality does my phone camera need to allow the app to detect my actions without any problems? Do you have any specific requirements for this?

Pedro Rente Lourenço, [16 Aug 2021 via video]:

This is a very good question and this is something we’ve been battling with since the beginning.

Everyone has different smartphones and camera quality, but we think this will not be a problem. We have tested it with different resolutions and of course there is a minimum that we’re going to establish and that we will give as a sort of indication but I think the most important thing here is to follow the instructions we provide at the start.

We have some instructions about contrasting colours between the background, the ball and yourself, or the way you position yourself in the camera, or by not allowing other people to be in the camera — all that helps with the detection mechanism and the AI algorithm, being much more important than resolution.

Besides the resolution there was also the frame rate, which is usually pretty much standardised in the latest smartphones. So this should not be a problem, and we’re ready to deal with different resolutions in many ways , not only with the detection algorithm but also in the output we provide to the players. We are working a lot on providing an exciting output for the players, like on how the score is evolving, among other things. Rest assured this will be taken care of!

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:35:39]:

Thank you so much! It’s now time to quickly open the chat and let some questions in! Feel free to ask the team what you want.

All of the following questions and answers were provided on Telegram’s chat. Some may have been edited to fit this format. For space purposes, we decided to choose some questions to transcript here.

Roverson Sovasisk, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:36:46]:

Are there plans for new exchanges?

Pedro Rente Lourenço, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:38:02]:

We have a lot of plans… so yes there are plans for new exchanges — we just can’t reveal them quite yet! Pay attention to this week and the next as we are about to announce something on this front.

Alan Perer, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:37:20]:

Sometimes my connection in the internet is really bad, does dotmoovs will handle it?

Pedro Rente Lourenço, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:39:00]:

No problems at all — the video is uploaded whenever your connection allows it and the score is then calculated in the cloud and sent back to your app — so even if your connection fails, you should still be able to use the app with no issues!

Joseph Smith, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:39:14]:

Hello, we will bet $MOOV or some kind of stable currency for the price fluctuations?

Salomé Azevedo, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:41:20]:

Hey, users will be using $MOOV. Our community will be rewarded every time they stake and hold $MOOV. To minimize price fluctuation, we will be releasing stable MOOVING tokens that you can use to play in the app.

Soujef Bez, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:37:52]:

I’m not sure if they asked before, what about cheaters and people who send fake videos? How is it going to work?

Pedro Rente Lourenço, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:41:23]:

So we have two systems in place, for one you cannot upload just any video, it has to be recorded directly with the app. And then if the users are not confident in the result or think the other party has cheated they can flag this to our team so it can be reviewed. In the future and with more data we will implement further advancements in this technology front with AI anti-fraud mechanisms

ROB, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:44:57]:

How the app will work for the non-athlete people?

Salomé Azevedo, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:46:56]:

You’ll be able to support the athletes. If you stake, you will earn rewards and you will be able to collect our top NFTs. that will allow you to exchange for sports goods. Also as non-athlete your support throughout interaction in the app by sharing, liking the performances of other players will make you a dotmoovs FAN. AND our fans will have their special rewards.

Ricardo Martins Costa, [16 Aug 2021 at 12:47:38]:

Let me thank everyone for your time, great questions!

Maybe next time we’ll do a whole live show on YouTube with Pedro & Salomé. It was great to share some info about the project and reveal some news as well! Let us know if you enjoyed the session. See you all very soon and meanwhile stay tuned to our channels!
