We’ve all heard about Freemium or Free2Play… In fact, that has been the dominant business model in the gaming industry. Now, it’s time for Play2Earn to take the stage.
Free2Play (F2P) video games are games that give players access to a significant portion of their content without paying. Instead of asking for payment before using a certain game, the F2P model is basically a free-to-start and originated in the late 1990s and early 2000s, coming from a series of highly successful MMOs targeted towards children and casual gamers. This model allowed a free game experience and monetising the player base through ads and in-app purchases — many times seen as a predatory monetisation, rapidly evolving to a more decadent “Pay2Win”.
BUT… the term “Free” in “Free2Play” does not mean an entirely free game (that, my friends, is freeware). In fact, all of these acronyms just mean one thing: “we want your money”. And don’t take us for hypocrites, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to create an extremely profitable company, but we’re just saying that there might be other ways and better models.
Now, dotmoovs is bringing Play2Earn (P2E) to the game. The real-life game.
Play2Earn seems to be gaining traction in the gaming industry. A model that seems better aligned with the players incentives to play — empowering and giving them a bigger ownership and control.
We, at dotmoovs, want to take Play2Earn to another level — lifting it from the eSports world to the Sports reality. P2E focuses on giving the player profit , where the most skilled ones are given ways to earn as a reward of being highly engaged with the game (read “sport”) they love. At dotmoovs we provide $MOOV and NFTs to the best athletes. This way, they are able to trade and monetise their assets, in a transparent in-game economy.
We can’t (and we won’t) run away from the fact that we are providing entertainment by gamifying sports, but we choose the road of maximising player engagement over profit.
When players are in a Play2Earn environment, they expect 3 things:
- The most talented and/or engaged ones will get rewarded;
- Rewards and assets will be tradable;
- In-game economy will be transparent while being encouraged to participate in the creation of new experiences on top of the core experience.
These core expectations determine what dotmoovs is doing: providing a solution for the closed circuit “spend-money-in-game-and-nothing-else”. Hardly any sports digital platform is providing a solution of redeeming items for real world value — not to say none — and this drives people from being entertained for a while until eventually losing interest when they cannot liquidate in the real-world any of the items earned or purchased in-app. It’s a walled garden.
At dotmoovs, if a player wants to waive their hand in a NFT or they need it in order to enter a specific tournament, they’ll have to work their butts off. They want to be on the leaderboard and ranked in the Top 10 to get extra rewarded or multiply their gains? You guessed it: there’s no other way than hard work.
And don’t think that we’re only focusing on the most talented ones… We’re also thinking of commitment and engagement with dotmoovs. Just because we’re mainly a sports platform, don’t think for a minute that we’re forgetting people who — for one reason or another — can’t “play the game”. They will also be able to contribute to the experiences by being organisers of tournaments, promoters of the app, liquidity providers, and many other things.
It’s time for us to make Play2Earn a reality… Because we truly believe that hard work, commitment and dedication should really payoff.
P.S.: While our app is still in the making, you can take a look at our technology and try it yourself.
