Competing against others in tournament mode
Let’s agree on the basics: a tournament is a competition involving at least three competitors, all participating in a sport or game. Competitions can be held in a short or longer period of time, involving a number of matches and combining the results of the individual matches to find a winner. This method is commonly used to allow large numbers of people to compete against each other for an award.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s focus on what matters: how are you going to play dotmoovs’ tournaments?
We’ve long talked about 1 vs. 1 challenges, but few has been said about the tournaments. Let’s address that today!
Knockout tournaments, Group tournaments or Multi-stage tournaments will soon be a part of dotmoovs’ reality.
A Knockout Tournament or elimination tournament is divided into successive rounds; each competitor plays one fixture per round and will move to the next one if they win or leave the tournament if they lose. These tournaments will be played on a single-game basis, i.e., only one match against another opponent before knowing who moves to the next round.
A Group Tournament or League happens when all players are playing against each other to determine which will be the 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the podium. Players compete against all the other players and are given points for each victory, thus determining the winner at the end of the competition.
And what about Multi-Stage Tournaments? Players are put to the test with a combination of a Group Tournament and a Knockout stage. First, they start by playing against others from the same group to determine who are the top scorers that will move to the knockout stage. There, they will play against the winners of other groups in knockout rounds until they reach the final stage where there’s only 1 opponent left to defeat.
At dotmoovs there will be the opportunity to see variations of these tournaments, such as playing as a team where the sum of scores from each player in the team will determine if they move forward or not.
