dotmoovs’ game economy: how it all works

Simplified schematics of dotmoovs’ game economy.

A game without an economy is like watching paint dry… not the most appealing. Not that every game should have wallets or stores, but basic economic elements can transform an entire gaming experience, leaving the player excited, engaged, and craving for more.

Dotmoovs’ playing modes

With a challenge-based approach to sports, there’s no initial investment required to join the dotmoovs sports arena. Depending on the type of player, there are two playing options:

  1. Practice mode — for those who want to practice their moves and not compete with anyone but themselves.
  2. Competitive mode — for the ones who have a competitive streak and like to play against their friends or famous athletes.

To play in competitive mode, athletes need to use NFT Sports Equipment. Dotmoovs is a virtual game with real-life concepts and features, and, as such, more advanced sports challenges wear out faster a player’s equipment, meaning the more complex a challenge is, the more digital “wear and tear” your equipment will suffer (read: you’ll need more lives!). Alongside the notion of durability, we’ve also accounted for the gear’s quality, and using high-quality NFTs maximizes players’ rewards. Fundamentally, dotmoovs’ sports equipment has utility, going beyond most digital collectibles.

MOOV and you shall be rewarded

Similar to other game philosophies, dotmoovs’ game economy revolves around in-app credits, a.k.a. XMOOVs. Dotmoovs’ players are rewarded based on their in-challenge performance. Because we want all our players to feel welcomed and not pressured to add XMOOVs to their wallets, we’ve opted to have a practice (free) and competitive (fee-based) playing mode. Furthermore, when joining our sports arena and after confirming their email address and filling out their profile info, players are offered up to 75 XMOOVs, which they can use to play in competitive mode.

But how is dotmoovs able to economically sustain the game?

The math without numbers

As previously mentioned, players need an NFT to play against other people. The revenue generated by NFT Sports Equipment purchases and restores covers the dotmoovs’ platform costs. Part of this XMOOV pool is used to settle the rewards-related expenses, while some is used to pay for other platform-related requisites like video processing.

When it comes to sports equipment renting, the process is between an NFT owner and its rentee. Still, every competitive challenge is associated with a fee, and NFT renters are automatically responsible for returning the equipment “as new” to their owners (by covering the cost of the rented equipment’s life).

In essence, for the game to sustain itself, people need to play in competitive mode. It’s as simple as the law of supply and demand. As long as there are active players, there will be XMOOV funds to distribute rewards. If a player is an awesome freestyle footballer or dancer, the odds are their reward winnings will allow them to play more without having to recharge their wallets. Likewise, someone who’s not that good at MOOVing will likely need to load their wallet if they wish to keep competing in the dotmoovs arena, as their in-game earnings won’t cover their challenge expenses for long.

Furthermore, the game’s economic sustainability isn’t dependent on the entry of new users or the unlimited issuance of volatile coins to pay never-ending rewards; instead, we created a circular, sustainable economy that will keep evolving — particularly with our ambitious plans for immersive advertising and brand engagement. And for now, we’re focused on growing our user base and scaling our sports arena, as that will allow us to develop more opportunities for our loyal sports community. So keep on MOOVing, because so will we!
