Backing dotmoovs. Luis Figo and Ricardo Quaresma, two international superstars.
It’s the dawn of the new millennium. Figo has just won FIFA 2001 World Player of the Year and is regarded as the best football player in the world. Roughly 600 kilometers west of Madrid, a young Quaresma is making his breakthrough year in his home country, Portugal. Due to his pace, trickery, and skills, the international spotlights soon turned to the 19-years old footballer when he moved to FC Barcelona to play alongside superstars like Ronaldinho.
On the other hand, Luis Figo was the first “galáctico” of all time. He was part of a select list of expensive and world-famous football superstars joined later by Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, David Beckham, Michael Owen, Robinho and Sergio Ramos — the original group of super-talented footballers playing in a single club.
In 2004, Quaresma returned to his home country to play for the newly crowned UEFA Champions League winners FC Porto and started to show all of his magic. With signature tricks like the rabona and trivela, he became a popular figure among football fans worldwide and earned the nickname “Harry Potter”.
When the conversation started, at dotmoovs, about who would better represent our first sport in the platform, freestyle football, very few made the list. But it was when we got the chance to pitch the idea to Quaresma that we were sure we had made the right choice. His support and feedback were precious, and soon we were shooting some freestyle football tricks to help us drive the scoring mechanism to another level. The visibility Quaresma brings to the project has also been relevant. With an extensive fan base around the world (and especially among Besiktas and FC Porto supporters), he is an integral part of the project, having been involved in the promotional aspect of the company.
Since we are launching Football Freestyle as the platform’s first sport, it was clear that we had to have at least one football legend with us. We were looking for someone who had made a name in football and was still physically active, someone who could act as an inspiration to both professional and amateur athletes. That’s how Figo came into the picture: he was the original Galactico, the first truly world-famous football superstar of our generation and regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time.
We started discussing the idea and the role Figo would play in the team, and we were thrilled to see that he backed the idea right from the beginning. His visibility and influence near other world-class athletes is undeniable and very important for us. That’s why we want to share the developments and features with him, allowing him to give feedback and help us improve our system.
Both players are considered an important part of the project and have been involved in the promotional aspect of the company and contribute with their talent to the further development of the arbitration engine.
